Cloudways

Independent infrastructure landing-page teardown using our public 12-dimension framework. Apply the findings to your own page in under 30 minutes.

59/100
Score

A managed cloud hosting layer on top of AWS, GCP, DigitalOcean, and Vultr that gives non-DevOps users access to real cloud infrastructure. The page communicates the breadth of providers but fails to articulate why a management layer is worth paying for when those providers offer their own consoles.

Highest-impact issue

Cloudways's core value is "cloud infrastructure without the DevOps hiring cost." A non-technical founder can deploy on DigitalOcean or AWS without touching a terminal. That translation — from "multi-cloud platform" to "your CTO in a dashboard" — is the conversion argument the page never makes.

Real founders, real fixes
Too soon at this writing to know the impact on sales but all the recommendations made sense and the follow up feedback recommended was prompt, careful and very helpful. Would recommend highly.

What this page does well

3 strengths
Choice of five infrastructure providers (AWS, GCP, DO, Vultr, Linode) is a genuine flexibility advantage.
Pay-as-you-go pricing with no long-term contracts removes commitment anxiety.
Free migration plugin automates the technical switching process for WordPress users.

Findings (3)

Was → problem → fix → why

Each finding cites the live copy at audit time, names the conversion problem, proposes a specific rewrite, and explains why the rewrite works against the 12-dimension framework.

Finding #01clarityCritical
Was
(multi-cloud platform hero — "managed hosting on top of X, Y, Z providers" framing)
Problem

Explaining that Cloudways sits on top of DigitalOcean, AWS, and GCP creates a "why not just use those directly?" objection that the page never answers. Naming the providers without naming the pain they cause (server provisioning, security patching, scaling configuration) makes Cloudways sound like an unnecessary middleman.

Fix
Deploy on DigitalOcean, AWS, or GCP — without hiring a DevOps engineer. Managed cloud hosting with the server work done for you.
Why this works

Names the cost avoided (DevOps hire) and the providers available, then frames Cloudways as the management layer that eliminates the skill-gap objection. The visitor understands the value is in what they don't have to do.

Finding #02trustHigh-impact
Was
(speed and uptime claims attributed to underlying providers without Cloudways-specific metrics)
Problem

Borrowing performance claims from AWS or DigitalOcean raises the question: does Cloudways's management layer add latency, or does it optimize? Without Cloudways-specific benchmarks, the visitor cannot tell whether the middleman helps or hurts performance.

Fix
Publish Cloudways-specific TTFB benchmarks: "Average TTFB on our DigitalOcean stack: 195ms. Our caching and server tuning add speed on top of the raw provider — see the comparison."
Why this works

Provider-specific benchmarks prove the management layer adds value, not overhead. This converts the "why not go direct?" objection into "Cloudways makes it faster and easier."

Finding #03offer specificityMedium
Was
(pricing matrix across five providers without guidance on which to choose)
Problem

Showing pricing for five different infrastructure providers without a recommendation engine overwhelms visitors who chose Cloudways precisely because they don't want to make infrastructure decisions. The flexibility becomes a decision burden.

Fix
Add a recommendation: "Not sure? Start with DigitalOcean — best value for most sites. Upgrade to AWS when you need global scale." Pre-select the most popular option.
Why this works

A default recommendation eliminates decision paralysis for the non-technical audience while preserving choice for power users. Most visitors should never need to evaluate five providers.

No. We have no affiliation with Cloudways and were not paid by anyone. This is independent third-party commentary based on the public landing page at audit time.
Did you contact Cloudways before publishing?
No. These teardowns analyze public marketing pages — the same way any reviewer would analyze a published book. We use only what is publicly accessible on the live URL.
Will my own audit look like this?
Yes — same 12-dimension framework, same finding format (was → problem → fix → why). Your report is private to you and based on your live page copy.
