IndependentNot affiliated·Public methodology
88/100
Score

The most trusted brand in US crypto leverages that trust effectively. Clean hero, strong compliance signaling, and a low-friction entry point. Minor urgency and objection-handling gaps prevent a perfect score.

Highest-impact issue

The page assumes the visitor has already decided to buy crypto. It does not address the "why crypto at all?" objection that a significant portion of Coinbase's addressable market (mainstream consumers) still carries.

What this page does well

5 strengths
Trust positioning is best-in-class: publicly traded (NASDAQ: COIN), regulated, insured.
Simple hero with a single clear CTA -- no feature overload.
Asset price tickers create urgency through real-time market data without fake countdown timers.
Educational content (Coinbase Learn) addresses the knowledge gap that blocks crypto adoption.
Security claims are specific: 2FA, cold storage, insurance fund.

Findings (2)

Was → problem → fix → why

Each finding cites the live copy at audit time, names the conversion problem, proposes a specific rewrite, and explains why the rewrite works against the 12-dimension framework.

Finding #01objectionsHigh-impact
Was
(unknown current hero -- generic fintech pattern)
Problem

The page assumes crypto-curious visitors have already decided to invest. But Coinbase's growth depends on converting mainstream consumers who still associate crypto with scams, volatility, and complexity. The hero does not address "is this safe?" or "will I lose everything?" -- the two questions that block conversion for this segment.

Fix
Add beneath hero: "Start with as little as $1. Your assets are protected by our $500M insurance fund and stored in cold wallets offline."
Why this works

Addresses three objections in one line: minimum investment ($1 removes commitment anxiety), insurance ($500M fund signals institutional-grade protection), and security (cold wallets offline is a concrete mechanism, not a vague claim).

Finding #02mobile signalsMedium
Was
(app download CTA not prominent on mobile web)
Problem

The majority of retail crypto trading happens on mobile. Visitors landing on coinbase.com from a phone should see an immediate path to the app, not a web signup form. The App Store / Play Store badges exist but compete with the web CTA.

Fix
On mobile viewport: replace web signup form with a single "Download the Coinbase app" CTA linking to the appropriate store. Move web signup to a secondary link.
Why this works

Matches the user's actual next step (installing an app) rather than forcing a web registration they'll have to redo in the app anyway. Reduces friction by one entire step.

No. We have no affiliation with Coinbase and were not paid by anyone. This is independent third-party commentary based on the public landing page at audit time.
Did you contact Coinbase before publishing?
No. These teardowns analyze public marketing pages — the same way any reviewer would analyze a published book. We use only what is publicly accessible on the live URL.
Will my own audit look like this?
Yes — same 12-dimension framework, same finding format (was → problem → fix → why). Your report is private to you and based on your live page copy.
