Africa's largest e-commerce platform tackles the continent's hardest logistics and payments problems, but the landing page communicates none of that operational depth — presenting as a generic discount marketplace instead of the trust-and-delivery pioneer it actually is.

Highest-impact issue

Jumia built its own logistics network, cash-on-delivery infrastructure, and JumiaPay fintech layer to serve markets where none of these existed. That "we deliver where others can't and you pay how you want" story is the single most powerful conversion argument for African shoppers — and it is completely absent from the homepage.

We thought our landing page already looked modern, but Landing Doctors showed us why users still didn't trust it. Their recommendations were extremely actionable and focused on conversions, not just design. The CTA restructuring alone…

What this page does well

3 strengths
Cash-on-delivery option addresses the fundamental trust barrier in markets with low digital-payment penetration.
JumiaPay integrated wallet reduces payment friction for repeat buyers across 11 African countries.
Local warehouse presence in key markets (Nigeria, Kenya, Egypt) enables delivery timelines that pure cross-border cannot match.

Findings (3)

Was → problem → fix → why

Each finding cites the live copy at audit time, names the conversion problem, proposes a specific rewrite, and explains why the rewrite works against the 12-dimension framework.

Finding #01trustCritical
Was
(promotional-campaign hero with discount banners — no delivery or payment-safety messaging)
Problem

African online shoppers rank "will my order actually arrive?" and "is my payment safe?" as their top two concerns. The homepage addresses neither, leading instead with "up to X% off" promotions that are meaningless if the visitor does not trust the delivery chain. In low-trust markets, trust messaging must precede all commercial messaging.

Fix
Pin a trust header: "Pay on delivery — only pay when your order arrives. Free returns within 7 days. JumiaPay buyer protection on every order."
Why this works

Cash-on-delivery is Jumia's most powerful trust mechanism — it eliminates prepayment risk entirely. Naming it in the first viewport addresses the #1 purchase barrier before the visitor encounters any product or price.

Finding #02value propHigh-impact
Was
(generic marketplace layout — no mention of local delivery network or country-specific logistics)
Problem

Jumia operates local warehouses and delivery fleets in 11 countries, but the homepage looks like a white-label template. A visitor in Lagos seeing the same layout as a visitor in Nairobi has no indication that Jumia has local infrastructure — making it indistinguishable from AliExpress, which ships everything from China.

Fix
Localize the hero by country: "Delivered from our Lagos warehouse in 1-3 days. Track your order in real time. 2,500+ pickup points in Nigeria."
Why this works

Country-specific delivery messaging proves local presence. "Delivered from Lagos" communicates something AliExpress can never say — that the goods are already in-country, reducing the perceived delivery risk from weeks to days.

Finding #03objectionsMedium
Was
(return policy exists but is not visible until deep in help center)
Problem

Return anxiety is amplified in markets where shoppers have experienced non-refunded returns on informal commerce platforms. Jumia offers structured returns, but the policy is buried in a help center that most mobile visitors on expensive data plans will never navigate to.

Fix
Show the return guarantee on every product card: "Free returns within 7 days. Full refund to JumiaPay or original payment method."
Why this works

Visible return policies reduce perceived purchase risk per item. In markets where "bought it, stuck with it" is the default expectation, a prominently displayed return guarantee is a conversion advantage, not a cost center.
