57/100
Score

Latin America's dominant marketplace with an integrated payments and logistics ecosystem. The homepage serves returning users well but does little to convert first-time visitors who need the ecosystem explained.

See methodology →
Highest-impact issue

Mercado Libre is not just a marketplace — it is the payments infrastructure (Mercado Pago), the logistics network (Mercado Envios), and the credit provider (Mercado Credito) for an entire region. This integrated ecosystem is the moat, and none of it is communicated on the marketplace homepage. A first-time visitor sees a product search box surrounded by deal banners.

Real founders, real fixes
Landing Doctors pointed out a few issues we had overlooked, especially around messaging structure. Not every recommendation fit our brand, but the report was still helpful and easy to apply.

The audit gave us a clearer structure for the homepage. Helpful overall — not every suggestion fit our brand voice, but most did.

What this page does well

3 strengths
Mercado Pago integration enables installment payments visible at the product-tile level — critical for Latin American buyers.
Mercado Envios free-shipping badge is displayed on eligible listings, addressing the region's historically unreliable delivery concern.
Buyer protection program prominently shown during checkout builds transaction trust in markets with lower e-commerce confidence.

Findings (3)

Was → problem → fix → why

Each finding cites the live copy at audit time, names the conversion problem, proposes a specific rewrite, and explains why the rewrite works against the 12-dimension framework.

Finding #01value propCritical
Was
(product search box and deal grid — marketplace homepage without ecosystem positioning)
Problem

The homepage presents Mercado Libre as a product marketplace competing on selection and price. The integrated ecosystem (payments, logistics, credit) that makes it structurally different from local competitors goes unnamed. A first-time visitor from a market with growing e-commerce adoption sees a search box and deals — the same template every marketplace uses.

Fix
Add an ecosystem strip: "Find it. Pay in installments. Get it delivered to your door — all in one place, backed by buyer protection."
Why this works

Naming the end-to-end flow (find, pay, receive, protected) communicates the integrated value that no single-purpose competitor offers. Installment payments are a conversion driver unique to the region and deserve hero-level visibility.

Finding #02trustHigh-impact
Was
(buyer protection exists but requires navigation to discover details)
Problem

In Latin American markets where e-commerce fraud concerns are higher than in mature markets, buyer protection is the most important trust signal. Mercado Libre has a robust program, but it is not visible on the homepage — visitors must navigate to a help page to learn about it.

Fix
Surface on the homepage: "Every purchase protected. Full refund if the item does not arrive or does not match the listing. Backed by Mercado Libre."
Why this works

Explicit buyer protection on the homepage addresses the #1 barrier to e-commerce adoption in emerging markets. Making the guarantee visible before the first search converts hesitant first-time online shoppers.

Finding #03offer specificityMedium
Was
(installment payment options shown per-product but not communicated as a platform feature)
Problem

Installment payments (cuotas) are a major conversion driver in Latin America, but Mercado Libre treats them as a per-listing detail rather than a platform promise. A visitor evaluating whether to shop here versus a local store does not know upfront that installment options exist across the catalog.

Fix
Add a financing strip: "Pay in up to 12 installments, interest-free on select items. Mercado Pago — accepted everywhere, trusted by millions."
Why this works

Elevating the installment promise to the homepage level converts visitors who would otherwise leave to check if a competitor offers similar financing. In the region, payment flexibility often matters more than price.
