63/100
Score

A C2C marketplace with a genuinely frictionless listing flow and prepaid-shipping simplicity. The product works, but the landing page pitches "buy and sell" without naming the trust mechanics that differentiate it from Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.

Highest-impact issue

Mercari's moat is managed trust: prepaid shipping labels, buyer protection escrow, and anonymous transactions where neither party shares an address. That safety infrastructure is what converts a Craigslist skeptic -- but the hero treats it as a footnote instead of the headline.

Real founders, real fixes
The report was short and practical. The CTA advice was probably the most useful part — rewrote the button copy and inquiries went up the same week.

I honestly expected another generic website audit, but Landing Doctors gave us clear explanations and actionable fixes. After updating the hero section and improving the offer clarity, inquiries started increasing within days.

What this page does well

3 strengths
Listing in under 60 seconds with phone-camera photo flow removes the seller barrier.
Prepaid shipping labels eliminate the "how do I ship this" friction that kills casual sellers.
Buyer-protection guarantee with escrow holds payment until delivery confirmation.

Findings (3)

Was → problem → fix → why

Each finding cites the live copy at audit time, names the conversion problem, proposes a specific rewrite, and explains why the rewrite works against the 12-dimension framework.

Finding #01trustCritical
Was
(generic C2C marketplace hero -- "buy and sell anything" pattern without safety differentiation)
Problem

Every peer-to-peer marketplace says "buy and sell." The visitor's real objection is fear: scams, no-shows, payment fraud, shipping hassle. Without naming the escrow, prepaid shipping, and anonymity protections in the first screen, Mercari sounds identical to riskier alternatives.

Fix
Sell anything. Ship safely. Get paid -- guaranteed. Mercari handles shipping labels, holds payment in escrow, and keeps your address private.
Why this works

Leading with the safety mechanics answers the C2C fear before it forms and positions Mercari as the "safe" marketplace vs the "free" or "local" alternatives.

Finding #02social proofHigh-impact
Was
(download count or user count cited without category context or ratings)
Problem

A large user number on a marketplace page doesn't answer "will my item actually sell?" Sellers want liquidity proof -- evidence that items in their category move quickly -- not an aggregate user badge.

Fix
Show category liquidity: "Electronics sell in an average of 2 days. Clothing: 4 days. 350,000+ items sold every day across 1,000+ categories."
Why this works

Category-specific sell-through data converts sellers by answering "will MY stuff sell here" -- the question a download count never addresses.

Finding #03CTAMedium
Was
(dual buyer/seller CTAs competing equally in the hero)
Problem

Showing "Buy now" and "Start selling" with equal prominence forces the visitor to self-select before understanding the value. Marketplace pages that split their hero between two audiences convert neither well.

Fix
Choose a primary audience per entry path. For organic/social traffic: lead with selling (higher LTV). "List your first item in 60 seconds -- shipping label included." Buying CTA as secondary text link.
Why this works

Sellers create supply that attracts buyers organically. Prioritizing the seller CTA builds the marketplace flywheel; splitting attention stalls both sides.
