Score

Category-leading e-commerce platform whose hero has tilted heavily into AI framing ("Be the next AI all-star"). The AI message lands well for new merchants but underplays the underlying platform reliability that wins enterprise.

Highest-impact issue

"Be the next AI all-star" is a brand statement, not a buyer statement. A merchant evaluating Shopify vs. WooCommerce or BigCommerce wants to know about transaction fees, app ecosystem, and total cost of ownership — not AI features.

Real founders, real fixes
We had good traffic but weak conversions. Landing Doctors explained the problems clearly and showed us exactly what to improve. The revised structure, stronger headlines, and CTA recommendations made the page far easier to understand.…

What this page does well

4 strengths
Free trial + low-friction signup (no credit card) — standard PLG strength.
App store (8K+ apps) is the defensibility moat and is named in the hero.
Pricing tiers (Basic / Shopify / Advanced) are transparent with clear feature deltas.
Enterprise (Shopify Plus) is segmented but reachable — no friction wall between SMB and big-account paths.

Findings (3)

Was → problem → fix → why

Each finding cites the live copy at audit time, names the conversion problem, proposes a specific rewrite, and explains why the rewrite works against the 12-dimension framework.

Finding #01clarityMedium
Was
Be the next AI all-star.
Problem

A buyer comparing Shopify to WooCommerce / Wix Stores / BigCommerce wants to know: how much will I pay, what will I get, how fast can I launch. The AI hero answers none of these.

Fix
"Launch your store in 24 hours. $39/mo, all the features. Used by 4.6M+ stores worldwide."
Why this works

Names time-to-launch, price floor, and scale. Each fact is a concrete buying-criterion answer. Saves the AI features for a sub-section where they augment the platform story, not replace it.

Finding #02value propHigh-impact
Was
(no transparent comparison to WooCommerce on TCO)
Problem

Shopify charges transaction fees + plan fees; WooCommerce is "free" but requires hosting + plugins. The actual TCO comparison favors Shopify for most merchants under $1M GMV — but the page never makes the math explicit.

Fix
Add a hero proof: "Cheaper than WooCommerce for stores under $1M/yr — when you add hosting, plugins, security, and support."
Why this works

TCO comparison frames Shopify's subscription as a bundled solution, not just a markup. Names the competitor (WooCommerce) and shows where Shopify wins the math.

Finding #03social proofMedium
Was
(scale stats exist on the about page but not on the homepage hero)
Problem

Shopify powers $260B+ in annual GMV and 4.6M+ stores. None of this surfaces on the homepage. A new merchant doesn't see the scale signal that justifies trusting the platform with their business.

Fix
Hero strip: "$260B+ in store sales · 4.6M+ active stores · 175+ countries supported."
Why this works

GMV signals platform reliability (merchants are succeeding). Store count signals network effects (apps, themes, partner ecosystem). Country count signals global readiness for international merchants.

About this teardown

Is this a paid hit-piece or sponsored?
No. We have no affiliation with Shopify and were not paid by anyone. This is independent third-party commentary based on the public landing page at audit time.
Did you contact Shopify before publishing?
No. These teardowns analyze public marketing pages — the same way any reviewer would analyze a published book. We use only what is publicly accessible on the live URL.
Will my own audit look like this?
Yes — same 12-dimension framework, same finding format (was → problem → fix → why). Your report is private to you and based on your live page copy.
