Score

A Japanese e-commerce and reservation platform trying to serve both online shops and brick-and-mortar businesses. The breadth ambition is clear, but the page pitches two different products to two different audiences without committing to either.

See methodology →
Highest-impact issue

STORES bundles e-commerce (STORES.jp), reservations (STORES Reserve), and POS (STORES Register) under one brand. That omni-channel integration could be powerful for small Japanese businesses that sell online and offline -- but the landing page presents them as separate products rather than a unified system, fragmenting the value proposition.

Real founders, real fixes
The audit was useful overall and gave us a few good ideas for improving clarity on the homepage. Some suggestions felt a bit generic, but the CTA and headline recommendations definitely helped.
Rachel Green
Founder · Simple Desk
The audit helped simplify our homepage. Customers seem to understand the product faster now, and we're seeing fewer drop-offs on the product pages.

What this page does well

3 strengths
Free-tier e-commerce store builder competes directly with BASE on accessibility.
Reservation system integration is genuinely useful for service businesses (salons, studios).
POS + online inventory sync addresses a real pain point for hybrid retail businesses.

Findings (3)

Was → problem → fix → why

Each finding cites the live copy at audit time, names the conversion problem, proposes a specific rewrite, and explains why the rewrite works against the 12-dimension framework.

Finding #01clarityCritical
Was
(multi-product hero -- shop/reserve/register tabs competing for attention without unified positioning)
Problem

When the hero asks "do you want a shop, a reservation system, or a POS?" the visitor must already know what they need. Most small business owners searching for "online shop" will not realize they also need reservations until the platform shows them -- but the tabbed layout hides each product behind a click.

Fix
One platform for your entire business. Sell online, take reservations, and manage in-store payments -- all connected, all free to start.
Why this works

A unified positioning statement frames the multi-product suite as a single solution, converting business owners who didn't know they needed integration until you named the pain.

Finding #02offer specificityHigh-impact
Was
(free plan mentioned without comparison to paid tier or competitor pricing)
Problem

Saying "free" without context leaves the visitor wondering what is missing. When BASE also offers free and Shopify Japan charges a subscription, STORES needs to position its free tier against both -- showing what you get for free here vs what costs money elsewhere.

Fix
Free: online shop + 10 product listings + reservation page. Standard plan: unlimited products, custom domain, lower transaction fees. Compare with BASE and Shopify.
Why this works

A tier comparison with named competitors captures the decision-stage visitor who is actively evaluating alternatives, and frames STORES' free tier as sufficient rather than stripped.

Finding #03mobile signalsMedium
Was
(desktop-oriented product showcase with limited mobile-first merchant context)
Problem

Japanese micro-merchants increasingly manage their shops from smartphones. A desktop-first product tour that shows admin dashboards and wide-screen layouts does not demonstrate mobile manageability -- the #1 usability concern for a solo operator running a shop between customers.

Fix
Show the mobile admin experience: "Manage orders, update inventory, and check reservations from your phone. STORES runs wherever you are."
Why this works

For the solo-operator segment, mobile admin is not a feature -- it is a requirement. Demonstrating it converts merchants who assume online-shop management means sitting at a computer.
