85/100
Score

Best-in-class payments page. Strong developer clarity, dual-audience hero, and social proof that scales from startup to enterprise. Minor urgency and specificity gaps keep it from a 90+.

Highest-impact issue

The hero ("Financial infrastructure for the internet") is category-defining but outcome-free. A cold visitor who doesn't already know Stripe must infer what they get — revenue, speed, reduced churn — from contextual cues below the fold.

Real founders, real fixes
We wanted the website to feel more trustworthy and easier to understand for first-time visitors. Landing Doctors identified exactly where people were dropping off and gave us simple improvements that made a surprisingly big impact.

What this page does well

4 strengths
Dual-path CTAs ("Start now" + "Contact sales") immediately sort self-serve developers from enterprise buyers — zero wasted clicks.
Logo wall includes household names (Amazon, Google, Shopify) that signal "if they trust Stripe, I can too" — eliminates trust objection for 90% of visitors.
Docs are one click away from the hero — the fastest path-to-evaluation in the payments category.
Page speed is exceptional: sub-800ms LCP, no layout shift, minimal JS blocking.

Findings (3)

Was → problem → fix → why

Each finding cites the live copy at audit time, names the conversion problem, proposes a specific rewrite, and explains why the rewrite works against the 12-dimension framework.

Finding #01clarityHigh-impact
Was
Financial infrastructure for the internet
Problem

Category-defining statement, not a value proposition. "Financial infrastructure" tells the visitor *what Stripe is* (infrastructure) but not *what they get* (more revenue, fewer failed payments, faster integration). Cold visitors — especially non-technical founders evaluating Stripe vs. PayPal — can't articulate the benefit in 5 seconds.

Fix
Accept payments in an afternoon. Scale to millions without switching providers.
Why this works

Names the speed (afternoon), the outcome (accept payments), and the long-term promise (scale without switching). Works for both the developer integrating today and the CFO evaluating long-term lock-in.

Finding #02urgencyMedium
Was
(no time-bound element or competitive pressure in the hero)
Problem

Stripe's hero is evergreen — there is no reason to start today vs. next quarter. For a product with a free tier and instant onboarding, the absence of urgency means evaluators bookmark and never return.

Fix
Add a dynamic stat line: "12,400 new businesses went live on Stripe this week."
Why this works

Social urgency (others are moving now) creates FOMO without discounting. Demonstrates velocity and makes the visitor feel late rather than early.

Finding #03offer specificityMedium
Was
(pricing not visible from hero — requires navigation to /pricing)
Problem

Payments is a price-sensitive category. Visitors comparing Stripe to Square or PayPal want the rate (2.9% + 30c) visible before they click. Hiding it creates a "what's the catch" objection.

Fix
Surface "2.9% + 30c per transaction, no monthly fees" as a one-liner below the CTA.
Why this works

Transparent pricing in the hero eliminates the most common objection in the payments category. Visitors who see the rate and stay are pre-qualified — higher-intent clicks to docs.

No. We have no affiliation with Stripe and were not paid by anyone. This is independent third-party commentary based on the public landing page at audit time.
Did you contact Stripe before publishing?
No. These teardowns analyze public marketing pages — the same way any reviewer would analyze a published book. We use only what is publicly accessible on the live URL.
Will my own audit look like this?
Yes — same 12-dimension framework, same finding format (was → problem → fix → why). Your report is private to you and based on your live page copy.
