56/100
Score

Aggressive gamification and rock-bottom pricing drive impulse purchases but actively erode the trust that repeat buyers and higher-ticket categories require.

Highest-impact issue

Temu's spin-the-wheel popups, coupon stacking, and countdown timers create an environment that feels like a carnival midway. This converts impulse $3 purchases but actively repels anyone considering spending $30+, where trust matters more than urgency.

Real founders, real fixes
The audit helped simplify our homepage. Customers seem to understand the product faster now, and we're seeing fewer drop-offs on the product pages.

Landing Doctors pointed out a few issues we had overlooked, especially around messaging structure. Not every recommendation fit our brand, but the report was still helpful and easy to apply.

What this page does well

3 strengths
Price anchoring is brutally effective: crossed-out "retail" prices make the discount feel enormous.
Free shipping threshold is low and clearly communicated throughout the funnel.
Mobile app experience is fast, smooth, and optimized for thumb-scrolling product feeds.

Findings (3)

Was → problem → fix → why

Each finding cites the live copy at audit time, names the conversion problem, proposes a specific rewrite, and explains why the rewrite works against the 12-dimension framework.

Finding #01trustCritical
Was
(gamification-heavy entry — spin wheels, coupon popups, referral prompts)
Problem

Three popups within 5 seconds of landing (spin wheel, app download prompt, new-user coupon) signals desperation, not value. Savvy shoppers interpret aggressive gamification as a red flag. For a platform fighting a "is it a scam?" reputation, every popup reinforces the doubt instead of resolving it.

Fix
Replace the popup barrage with a single, clean welcome message: "New here? Everything ships free. 90-day returns, no questions." Close the trust gap first, sell the deal second.
Why this works

For a brand with active trust deficit in Western markets, removing friction signals earns more conversion than adding incentive signals. Trust is the bottleneck, not motivation.

Finding #02social proofHigh-impact
Was
(review counts shown but verification and photo proof inconsistent)
Problem

Products show high star ratings and large review counts, but the absence of verified-purchase badges and inconsistent photo reviews trigger the "are these real?" reflex in buyers already primed to be skeptical of the platform.

Fix
Add "Verified Purchase" badges, surface photo reviews prominently, and show country-of-reviewer flags to signal real Western buyers have ordered and received the product.
Why this works

For a platform overcoming trust headwinds, verified proof from buyers in the visitor's own market is the single highest-leverage social proof signal.

Finding #03page speedMedium
Was
(heavy JavaScript for gamification + animation overlays)
Problem

Spin wheels, animated coupons, and floating banners add significant JavaScript weight to first load. On mid-range mobile devices where Temu's core audience browses, this creates jank in the feed-scrolling experience that directly costs engagement.

Fix
Defer all gamification scripts until after first meaningful paint. Load the product feed instantly; layer interactive elements only after the catalog is scrollable.
Why this works

Every 100ms of feed-scroll delay costs engagement on an impulse-browse platform where the product grid is the revenue engine.
