53/100
Score

A free-to-start e-commerce store builder that is Japan's answer to Shopify for micro-merchants. The zero-cost entry is genuinely compelling, but the page sells "make a shop" without naming the specific merchant segment or the economics that make it viable.

Highest-impact issue

BASE's wedge is zero monthly fees with transaction-based monetization -- a model that lets creators, hobbyists, and micro-merchants sell without subscription risk. That "you pay nothing until you sell something" promise is the entire conversion argument for a segment that Shopify's $39/mo minimum excludes.

What this page does well

3 strengths
Free plan with no monthly subscription removes the financial barrier for first-time sellers.
Template-based setup requires no coding and launches a store in minutes.
Integrated payment processing (PAY.JP) eliminates the need to set up a separate payment gateway in Japan.

Findings (3)

Was → problem → fix → why

Each finding cites the live copy at audit time, names the conversion problem, proposes a specific rewrite, and explains why the rewrite works against the 12-dimension framework.

Finding #01value propCritical
Was
(generic "create your online shop" hero -- store-builder category messaging without economic differentiator)
Problem

Every store builder from Shopify to STORES says "create your online shop." BASE's actual differentiator -- zero monthly fees -- is the strongest argument for its target merchant (hobbyists, creators, small Instagram sellers) but gets equal billing with features instead of leading the page.

Fix
Start selling for free. No monthly fees, no setup costs. BASE charges only when you make a sale -- so you never pay more than you earn.
Why this works

The zero-fee model is the single reason a micro-merchant picks BASE over Shopify. Burying it in a feature list forces the visitor to discover it themselves, which most will not do.

Finding #02proofHigh-impact
Was
(shop count as primary social proof without merchant-outcome context)
Problem

Citing "2M+ shops opened" sounds impressive but raises the question: how many are active? A high open count with unknown success rate can signal abandonment rather than platform quality. Micro-merchants want evidence that small shops actually sell here.

Fix
Show merchant outcomes: "2M+ shops created. [X]M+ items sold last year. Average new shop makes their first sale within [X] days."
Why this works

First-sale velocity and GMV data convert skeptics by proving that BASE shops generate real transactions, not just empty storefronts.

Finding #03objectionsMedium
Was
(transaction-fee structure not transparent until pricing page deep-link)
Problem

A "free" store builder that charges per transaction will trigger "what's the catch" if the fee structure is not visible near the free claim. Merchants who discover a 6.6%+ take rate after setup feel misled, creating refund requests and negative reviews.

Fix
State the model next to the CTA: "Free to open. 6.6% + 40 yen per sale. No monthly minimum, cancel anytime."
Why this works

Transparent fee disclosure next to the free claim builds trust and pre-qualifies merchants who accept the model, reducing post-signup churn.
