65/100
Score

Alibaba's brand-authorized B2C mall with genuine product authenticity guarantees. The quality floor is higher than Taobao by design, but the platform communicates none of that trust advantage to international visitors who would value it most.

Highest-impact issue

Tmall's core differentiator is brand authorization — every store is vetted and brand-licensed, eliminating the counterfeit risk that plagues open marketplaces. For Western buyers sourcing authentic Chinese brands or international brands at China-domestic pricing, that "guaranteed genuine" positioning is exactly the trust signal they need, and the site never communicates it to non-Chinese visitors.

What this page does well

3 strengths
Brand-authorization model guarantees product authenticity — a genuine trust advantage over open marketplaces.
Higher merchant quality floor than Taobao due to vetting requirements and deposit system.
Strong logistics integration with Cainiao network delivers reliable domestic fulfillment.

Findings (3)

Was → problem → fix → why

Each finding cites the live copy at audit time, names the conversion problem, proposes a specific rewrite, and explains why the rewrite works against the 12-dimension framework.

Finding #01value propCritical
Was
(premium brand mall positioning communicated entirely in Mandarin with no international buyer framing)
Problem

Tmall's brand-authorization guarantee is its single strongest selling point for international buyers worried about counterfeits — and it is completely invisible to anyone who does not read Chinese. The site has no English explanation of what makes Tmall different from Taobao or why brand authorization matters.

Fix
Position the brand guarantee internationally: "Every store on Tmall is brand-authorized and deposit-backed. No counterfeits, no gray-market goods. Shop genuine products at China-domestic prices, shipped worldwide."
Why this works

Brand authorization solves the #1 objection international buyers have about Chinese marketplaces (counterfeits). Naming it as the headline positioning immediately reframes Tmall from "another Chinese site" to "the verified alternative."

Finding #02social proofHigh-impact
Was
(brand logos and flagship-store badges visible but context of vetting process absent)
Problem

International brands operating Tmall flagship stores are visible but the vetting criteria — deposit requirements, brand-license verification, quality-assurance obligations — are not surfaced to buyers. Without understanding the barrier to entry, the buyer sees logos without comprehending the trust they represent.

Fix
Explain the vetting: "Tmall flagship stores require brand-license verification, a $15,000+ quality deposit, and ongoing performance review. If a product is not genuine, Tmall refunds 3x the purchase price."
Why this works

Surfacing the economic consequences of non-compliance (deposit, 3x refund guarantee) transforms brand logos from decoration into quantified trust proof that international buyers can evaluate rationally.

Finding #03objectionsMedium
Was
(domestic payment and shipping infrastructure with no cross-border checkout path)
Problem

Tmall's checkout assumes Alipay and a Chinese shipping address. International buyers hit a hard wall at payment — no international credit cards, no cross-border shipping options, no forwarding-agent integration. The conversion funnel simply does not exist for non-Chinese buyers.

Fix
Build a cross-border checkout lane: "International buyers: pay with Visa, Mastercard, or PayPal. Ships to 40+ countries via Cainiao Global. Track your order in English from warehouse to door."
Why this works

Payment-method expansion and international shipping are table-stakes for cross-border e-commerce. Without them, Tmall forfeits the entire international demand segment to resellers and forwarding agents who capture the margin.
