Score

Indonesia's homegrown marketplace with deep local-seller integration and fintech features, but the landing page leads with promotions instead of the domestic-trust advantage that differentiates it from Shopee and Lazada.

Highest-impact issue

Tokopedia's core edge is hyper-local: Indonesian sellers, Bahasa-first interface, integrated bill payments and top-ups that make it a daily-use super-app. That "one app for everything Indonesian" positioning is invisible on the homepage, which looks identical to any regional competitor's sale-banner layout.

Real founders, real fixes
Simple suggestions, but they made the website cleaner and easier to navigate. Sometimes the simplest changes are the ones you can't see yourself.

The audit was useful overall and gave us a few good ideas for improving clarity on the homepage. Some suggestions felt a bit generic, but the CTA and headline recommendations definitely helped.

What this page does well

3 strengths
Integrated bill payments (electricity, water, phone top-up) create habitual daily usage beyond shopping.
Official Store badges for brand sellers address the counterfeit anxiety endemic to Indonesian e-commerce.
TokoPoints loyalty program rewards repeat purchases with visible point balances on the homepage.

Findings (3)

Was → problem → fix → why

Each finding cites the live copy at audit time, names the conversion problem, proposes a specific rewrite, and explains why the rewrite works against the 12-dimension framework.

Finding #01value propCritical
Was
(sale-banner hero identical to every other SEA marketplace — no super-app positioning)
Problem

Tokopedia is a super-app (shopping + fintech + bill pay + gold investment) competing as if it were just another product marketplace. The hero's rotating sale banners are interchangeable with Shopee or Lazada, erasing the lifestyle-platform differentiation that drives daily opens.

Fix
Lead with the super-app identity: "Shop, pay bills, invest, and top up — all in one place. 100% Indonesian, 100% yours."
Why this works

Naming the breadth of services positions Tokopedia as a daily-use platform, not a sometimes-shop. The national-identity angle ("100% Indonesian") differentiates from Alibaba-backed Lazada and Sea Group's Shopee.

Finding #02trustHigh-impact
Was
(Official Store badge program exists but is not surfaced in the hero or landing flow)
Problem

Indonesian buyers rank counterfeit goods as their top online-shopping fear. Tokopedia has an Official Store verification program that directly addresses this, but it appears only inside category pages — never in the first viewport where trust decisions happen.

Fix
Add a trust strip below the hero: "Official Store guarantee — buy from verified brands with free returns. 50,000+ authenticated sellers."
Why this works

Surfacing the verification program in the first viewport converts the brand-safety investment into a visible trust signal. Burying it in category pages means anxious first-time buyers bounce before they discover it.

Finding #03offer specificityMedium
Was
(promotional discounts shown without minimum-spend or eligibility context)
Problem

Flash-sale banners show "up to 90% off" without minimum-spend thresholds, eligible categories, or time windows. Experienced Indonesian shoppers know these claims require fine print; omitting it on the hero trains visitors to distrust all promotional content on the platform.

Fix
Make terms visible: "Electronics flash sale: up to 50% off on 200+ brands. Ends midnight WIB. Min. purchase Rp 100K for free shipping."
Why this works

Specific, bounded promotional claims ("up to 50% on 200+ brands, ends tonight") convert better than unbounded "up to 90%" claims because they feel real. Transparency builds the promotional credibility that inflated claims destroy.
